Motto: We do not understand what we know
Dear colleagues and friends of the SPH Club,
We are pleased to announce the upcoming Symposium on Portal Hypertension (SPH) in Banska Stiavnica, Slovakia. Following last year’s adjustments necessitated by a fire in the historical center and the International Liver Congress (ILC), we are returning to our usual schedule in June at the Old Castle.
In light of recent events, we express our gratitude to the esteemed experts who have generously supported our endeavors. The hybrid format of SPH-C aims to facilitate the participation of both familiar faces and new attendees, ensuring that Central European hepatology remains aligned with global developments.
This year’s symposium will feature focused discussions on: i) Endoscopic hepatology ii) Updates on MASLD specific to the Central European region iii) Recurrence of primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) post-liver transplant iv) Renal biopsy in advanced chronic liver disease (ACLD) v) Liver registries in Central Europe
These dedicated workshops will seek to: i) Establish a network of collaboration among sites in Central Europe, the EU, and other regions to advance recently created new branch of hepatology – endoscopic hepatology ii) Develop a unified approach to implementing MASLD within the Central European region, including guidelines for screening, diagnosis, and therapy iii) Assess the feasibility of consolidating transplant databases in Central Europe to address recurrent PSC and other etiologies iv) Evaluate the current role of renal biopsy in ACLD v) Share information among Club members regarding existing and planned liver registries in our region.
As the essence of the Club lies in comprehensive discussions, participants are warmly invited to join either in person or online. We aim to publish proceedings summarizing these discussions promptly after the meeting.
The symposium will feature a state-of-the-art lecture exploring the intersection of bile acids with acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) and plasmapheresis, presented by two experts in the field. Recognizing the limitations of the official program, we endeavor to create an engaging space – time continuum extending beyond its confines.
Dear colleagues, we look forward to welcoming you to Banska Stiavnica, where the beauty of the surroundings will complement your knowledge, scientific passion, and camaraderie among attendees, creating an unforgettable experience.
Sincerely,
Lubomir Skladany
